Larrimah and Daly Waters

After leaving Pine Creek we continued further south we passed through the town of Larrimah

We actually passed through Larrimah back in 2019 and stopped for “coffee and cake” , has to go down in history as the worst coffee i ve ever had. Anyway the reason we stopped and took photos here is because Gadget had watched the Netflix series that centres around 

The murder of a local man, where any of the 11 eccentric locals had a good motive for murdering him. But apparently the owner of the cafe we stopped at is the prime suspect….

Anyway took some pictures and drove on.

Daly Waters hotel

Again this is a place we have been before ,  but loved it so much it was a near brainer to return.

Daly water is one of those iconic little townships that Australia produces.  The village is filled with eccentric buildings with parts of helicopters , cars and other paraphernalia. The pub even has its own traffic lights.


The pub is also filled with memorabilia and is just a fun place to sit relax and study the thousands of bits of paraphernalia. Gadget actually added his own  bit of paraphernalia this time, leaving his cherished Mereweather Carlton hat behind , it was faded and a bit worse for wear, but it now represents a part of us we have left behind in the Northern Territory. 

Sitting listening to the afternoon music , i looked out and spied our dynamic duo parked up resting, is it weird that i consider them both  characters, probably but it is who I am i ve always given personalities and names to our vehicles and i feel that the four of us , Gadget , Reggie, Ruby and i have been on this amazing journey together. 

We decided at the outset of the trip we would send the kids postcards, because these days who gets mail in a mailbox, so we thought it would be a bit of fun for them to get mail. Well three quarters of the way through the trip we discovered an app that creates postcards from your photos. So whilst we still send traditional cards we have also sent the app ones.

So what better to arrive in your mail box, then a card with a photo of your Nonno doing funny things.

 

Gadget was more than up for posing for the grandkids 

We had a lot of fun. Its a super fun little town and the pub always seems to have great  music on.

We set off from Bourke  , we had stayed the night at Kidmans camp , which was a lovely spot and headed off south to start the Datling River run. For the first few hours we didn’t see any river as our first destination was  TooraleHomestead The drive in was pretty good , lots of dust and a little bit of corrigation but really quite good  We seen some wildlife including an eagle  Bit blurry as it was taken through the windscreen of the car ,  Some Emu’s and kangaroos  The homestead itself is closed to the public except during school holidays ,so we didn’t get to go in but , we knew before we arrived that was the case and I was keen to see it anyway. Sir Samuel McCaughey in partnership with his Brother John and cousin purchased Toorale, Nocoleche and Dunlop station. The great adventure begins….. celebrating Mr and Mrs Madden

Our  great escape began on Friday,  In an amazing consequence  our journey will be bookmarked at the begging and end by a  celebration of Love. Reggie and Ruby headed north to the cute little town of dungog    Dungog has always been a special place to me  My sister was born in Dungog  When i became a young adult and and discovered the freedom of having my own transport It was a favourite destination, yep fuel was a lot cheaper in those days. And in  more recent years i have spent many wonderful crafty weekends in Dungog,  We set Reggie and Ruby (R&R) up at the local showground.  We then did the relatively  short walk to the Main Street. After having a little wander around and chatting with the friendly shop owners we found ourselves enjoying an ale or two at the tin shed brewery, lovely friendly staff, and we both enjoyed our beverages. as usual the egg household has been a hive of activity this month,  maybe i should change my blog name to the busy bee's . . . . .? at the beginning of the month we took possession of our luxury motel on wheels yep we have upgraded and are no longer trailer people we are now Van people as always we have named our new motel on wheels this time it's  BRIDGET so Bridget is a 16ft Jayco Expanda she is gadgets pride and joy  . . . . .because she is full of gadgets . . . . we have hot and cold running water, we have an shower on the outside, yep we need a tent, although i could always do the big brother thing and wear my bikini's. . . . that would ensure we would have the camp site to ourselves she has an air conditioner, stereo system with inside and outside speakers and the list gos on and on so we spent most of this month making her our home on wheels but on the weekend on a grey cold winters day we took bridget out on her maiden vo...
