Dundee Beach

We arrived at Dundee beach on the 10th of July and were sad to say goodbye on the 16th of July.

Dundee beach is 59 kilometres south west of Darwin.

It was originally settled in the early 1990’s , originally as a weekend getaway for people from Darwin. Again whilst the beaches look divine and somewhere that would be wonderful to swim in ,saltwater crocodiles make beach swimming a big no go.

The area is believed to have got its name from the 1980s movie “Crocodile Dundee”

And it appears to live up to its name, with a tourist discovering a reasonably large croc resting on the mat outside her van a couple of years ago.

Gadget and I discovered both Crab Claw Island and Dundee beach a few years ago when we visited Darwin and we did a helicopter pub crawl the helicopters landed at both of these locations.

Anyway they were both the perfect pivot points for our holiday.

Dundee beach is reliant heavily on tourism , and it is now a popular destination for fisherman from all over Australia

So we decided we would give it a proper go

We booked a tour with Mousie’s Barra and Bluewater fishing tours

There were four of us on the tour , i caught the first fish a little fish that was dubbed the bait fish. As that is what it became.

We started off slow but eventually caught 11 fish with many returning to the sea (alive) taking home one grass trout (myn, pictured above) one coral trout (pictured below) and two blue bones (Gadgets)

He was the envy of the other experienced fisherman who caught a lot of grass trouts and only one blue bone between them. It was a really great day, and one that has inspired us to continue our fishing journey.

So what did we do whilst we were at Dundee for so many days, a whole lot of not much really,  we swam in the pool, read books, had naps, i knitted, I started the massive task of cleaning Ruby , well internally anyway.

And we celebrated my 56th birthday at the bar below

The only bar at Dundee that we spent time at, the bar that made us want to return, because of its beautiful views , and the opportunity to sit and watch boats being launched and coming back in, to watch the sun go down of an evening.

the building is pretty much brand new and not the one we previously visited , however

we enjoyed the hours we spent here reminiscing about the trip, talking about what we hope to do in the future. The place i discovered drinking alcoholic ginger beer was a better option for me , when drinking with gadget.

We loved out time here and left feeling refreshed relaxed , and keen to return.

Until the next blog
