Fishing charter, Baking and household chores

Gadget took the opportunity to do a fishing charter , whilst we were resting at Yardie creek

The fishing charter was with Blue Horizons fishing charters, which had  us doing an early morning run into Exmouth , a 1 hr round trip. I had the opportunity to have a cafe breakfast enjoying the opportunity to read and have a long slow breakfast.

Gadget did well bagging a total of five fish

Three speckled emperors and two golden snappers.

He was shouted a well earned beer afterwards at the Whalebone brewery

After returning to camp I took the opportunity to catch up on some household chores.

Whist we are constantly keeping Ruby tidy , you have to when you are always on the move.

She needed a bit of a deep clean.

We also constantly do small loads of washing , mainly clothes, where we can  but the opportunity to wash sheets, doona covers and towels was too good to miss. 

So i had to enter the washing wars to get my washing in a machine and find a space on the communal lines. Seriously, one lady and her husband literally sprinted to get their washing out of the machine and on the line before me. Anyway i found room and had my linen back off the line and on the bed by midday.

As well as cleaning i took the opportunity to make a sourdough. 

The dough itself was actually made on this day

However it was cooked two days later , as it needed to rest in the fridge at least overnight

And since Gadget is the master of the Baby Q i was waiting for him to be home to bake ( i also didnt want to heat the inside of the van up by using the oven)

The loaf was much better this time we didn’t totally charcoal its butt, 

But it was still a little over cooked on it’s base,

I reached out to my sourdough guru who helped out with some suggestions  so 

We will just HAVE to make another loaf to try them.

All up it was a pretty relaxing day. 

Although Gadget assures me that the fishing is much harder work than it looks.

Today (19th of June 2024) we did a bit of a self drive tour , our first destination was  Coconut wells,  The coconut wells area is an off grid beachside community just north of Broome.  It has several mango farms. But it is best known for it’s turquoise tidal lagoon and the 100’s of bathsize Rockpools.  That are refilled every high tide all created by the limestone rocky outcrop. Each little pool is like a little aquarium where you can find crabs , fish and sea slugs. It was a lovely drive and Reggie got to do another sand drive. After the coconut wells visit we headed to the  Malcolm Douglas Crocodile farm and animal refuge The Crocodile park was established inn 1983, by the well known conservationist and filmmaker Malcom Douglas. The croc park is located just north of Broome on a property with several natural lakes and ponds , creating a perfect environment for the crocs both saltwater and freshwater to live as naturally as possible. Cape le Grand: Thistle cove and Hellfire Bay

Cape Le grand national Park sits on the lands of the Wudjari people The park covers an area of 31,801. Hectares. The name Cape Le Grand came from one of the officers on L’Esperance one of the ships in the 1792 expedition of Bruni d’Entrecasteaux. ,  On Monday we hiked the beautiful walk from Lucky Bay to Thistle Cove. The hike was a pretty short 4 km round trip  The views were absolutely stunning, and i have to say i have really become much more besotted with the native flora. Thistle Cove is just one of the many beautiful bays located in this area. Thistle Cove was named by Mathew Flinders after the ships master John Thistle However its charm is not just its pristine beach, but also the stunning panorama of the cove. Above is whistling rock , a giant slab standing vertically , as it is curved in shape it amplifies the surrounding noises. Toorale homestead - Louth

We set off from Bourke  , we had stayed the night at Kidmans camp , which was a lovely spot and headed off south to start the Datling River run. For the first few hours we didn’t see any river as our first destination was  TooraleHomestead The drive in was pretty good , lots of dust and a little bit of corrigation but really quite good  We seen some wildlife including an eagle  Bit blurry as it was taken through the windscreen of the car ,  Some Emu’s and kangaroos  The homestead itself is closed to the public except during school holidays ,so we didn’t get to go in but , we knew before we arrived that was the case and I was keen to see it anyway. Sir Samuel McCaughey in partnership with his Brother John and cousin purchased Toorale, Nocoleche and Dunlop station. Acquiring 800 000 acres of land and 130 000 sheep and 80 horses.  Eventually Samuel bought his brother and cousin out. He built the homestead in 1896 as a wedding gift to his niece. The golden...
