Seals, Dolphins and early starts

This morning started with a very early start. We left Port Lincoln at 5 am

Destination Baird Bay

As we travelled along the fog was so bad that we had to slow down a fair bit,  but fortunately the kangaroos were sleeping in and we made the trip with no issues.

Baird Bay is a small fishing village located 50 kilometres South of Streaky Bay

Baird Bay is filled with Marine life , birds, fish and mammals.

So why did we get up at 5am to get there ?

To do the Baird Bay Eco Experience and the opportunity to swim with Sea Lions and Dolphins.

All those black things in the water are not sea lions its us humans with our 5mm thick full body wetsuits.

And it did not disappoint , our first swim in the bay and we had a young female dolphin and a young male sea lion swim over to check us out.

They were as curious about us as we were of them.

The little guy above was accompanied by another young seal and an older Bull seal, the two young seals, had a ball playing in the waves

Baird Bay is home to a colony of about 120 seals

A whole family of Dolphins came to check out the boat and the people swimming around outside it.

They followed the boat at times when it moved to different locations.

At no time was any food given to the Dolphins or Seals and at no time did any human beings step onto the island where the breeding colony live or have physical contact with the animals. The premise is that the animals do not become dependant on the humans at any time and they chose to interact with us.

It was a great experience, but at a chilly 13 degrees in the water for the night.

in what would arguably be one of the prettiest campsites that Ruby has been

It was a pretty wonderful place to end the day.
